Tanner Chichak RMT
Going solo: how stronger branding and an improved online presence helped a Registered Massage Therapist leave the clinic and go it alone.
Serving Lower Lonsdale in North Vancouver, Tanner Chichak RMT is passionate about healing localized injuries, and resolving postural imbalances through sports-related massage therapy.
For a time he offered his services via a rented space in a clinic, alongside other RMTs. However, Tanner’s dream was to create his own studio where he could operate at his own pace and schedule, and increase his profits as well.
So in 2021, he made the bold decision to quit the clinic and go it alone in his own by creating a small, independent studio space. With his finances tied up with the transition, Tanner needed a cost-effective way to create stronger branding and an improved online presence for his new, solo studio space.
The problem? That’s easier said than done for a busy masseur and solopreneur.
Tanner came to Khula Design Studio via our Refer A Friend program, which offers a referral reward of up to $1,000 CAD for introducing new clients to our services. When we began working with Tanner, he had a ‘Do-It-Yourself’ brand identity, and a simple Squarespace landing page. While his makeshift site served a purpose, it lacked some core web design best practices and SEO fundamentals which could really help to put him on the map.
After our discovery call, we had a clear indication of Tanner’s budget and his needs, so we created a strategy to provide Tanner with a cost-effective solution to close the gaps and elevate his brand in line with his aspirations. Rather than migrating the website to Webflow, we focussed on improving the legacy user experience (UX), so that existing and potential clients would be able to quickly and easily find the information they need simply by scrolling — making it ideal for people accessing his site via a mobile device. This included giving greater prominence to ways of contacting Tanner.
We also focussed our efforts on finessing the website copy through our team of creative and savvy copywriters. This helped to ensure that Tanner’s messaging was clear and seamless throughout. Our edits to Tanner’s website copy were also informed by Search Engine Optimization (SEO) keyword research, and we tweaked the metadata to ensure that his website was better optimized for search engines like Google to crawl, index, and rank.
In addition, we created a ‘Google My Business’ page and profile to help give him an extra-boost, making his business details discoverable on both Google Search and Google Maps. This had the added benefit of connecting his business with social proof through Google Reviews — which is handy for someone who’s received a number of five-star ratings.
After the improved website launched in late 2021, Tanner was fully booked for the rest of the year. His website now ranks in the top 5 on Google for the keyword “RMT Lower Lonsdale”, and he’s collecting fantastic Google Reviews, which provide the much-needed social proof that he was previously lacking.
And it’s all those little updates that have contributed to the overall big impact, which means that Tanner can now have full faith in his brand and exude confidence with his client base at every touchpoint.
