How did bold branding from Khula Design Studio help to elevate Hong Kong-based snack subscription service Yobox in a competitive market?
Snack subscription services are trending. Afterall, who wouldn’t want to open a box of tasty treats from around the world, delivered straight to their door?
The problem? It’s an emerging, tough, competitive and global market. To stand out from the crowd, you need an edge. You need differentiation. You need to make a lasting impression. Enter YoBox.
With their unique offer of 50+ treats in one box, from one country, this Hong Kong-based snack box subscription service YoBox serves up a tempting and adventurous alternative to its competitors.
The three YoBox partners, based in Canada, South Africa, and Hong Kong, had a broad agreement on colours, and the beginnings of a website design. But they needed a strong visual identity, and a system that could be rolled out at every touchpoint, from packaging design and social media, to their website.
They needed a unique, fun, and bold brand identity to match their appetizing vision, leave a pleasant aftertaste in the mouths of their customers, and distinguish their own flavour in an increasingly crowded market.
That’s when YoBox turned to Khula Design Studio for a full brand identity.
To get a taste of YoBox’s vision for their brand and product, we began with discovery and understanding. It was the first step in identifying how our design team could execute a solution to elevate the company above its competitors.
The design thinking process began after we’d studied the demographics of their target markets in Hong Kong, identified their biggest competitors, and established possible ways to create a unique identity with the potential for longevity.
With careful planning, research, and moodboarding completed, the ideation phase followed, and we produced a range of viable concepts. Narrowing it down to just three, we shared the results across our design network to get a measure of which one best represented the brand and product.
After further rounds of iterations, we arrived at the best solid concept to present to the YoBox. This was crucial to the design process because without testing, the design was only being measured by an internal opinion, not by an external audience through the lens of real-life application.
YoBox was delighted by our first presentation, and felt the concept was a super strong identity to move forward with. A tiny adjustment was made to the X symbol on the logo, but overall the design was approved at the first concept.
With stunning new branding in place, YoBox has a powerful visual identity it can roll out at every customer touch point to create a holistic, visual experience.
And we’re hungry to see YoBox hit the Hong Kong market!
